Family Fifties Night at Home!
Plan a wholesome house party with a fabulous fifties theme the whole family will love! Fifties costumes are easy to create for every member of the family and putting them together can be a fun project unto itself leading up to the day you have chosen for your party. You could have a sock hop in the living room and practice your Swing steps! Dance the Twist and do the Mashed Potatoes! You could dance a 50s Limbo! Throw in some Hand Jive, too! (See song recommendations below.)
At Cotillion we play musical chairs for the game at our Fifties Party and serve small Classic Cokes and yummy chocolate chip cookies. Here is a link to my current favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe. (Another fun project!) Round out the evening with a 50s Diner menu like hamburgers and milk shakes. (In & Out comes to mind!) You could watch some fun fifties movies, too. My favorite? Back to the Future!
Here are some 50s favorites for your party playlist:
Rock Around The Clock (Swing) by Bill Haley & His Comets
At the Hop (Swing) by Danny & The Juniors
Everybody Loves to Cha Cha Cha (Do you need to ask?) by Sam Cooke
The Twist and Let's Twist Again (Self-explanatory!) by Chubby Checker
Rock and Roll Waltz (Ahem.) by Kay Starr
Willie and The Hand Jive by Johnny Otis Show
Twisting' the Night Away - Sam Cooke
Limbo Rock by Chubby Checker
Johnny B. Goode by Chuck Berry
Summertime blues by Eddie Cochran
Love Potion No. 9 by The Clovers
Mr. Sandman by The Chordettes
Big Girls Don't Cry by Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons
Hope your Family Fifties Party is a blast from the past!
